The engine block for the diesel 2.2 litre mHawk engine is the foundation for creating this petrol engine. The G badge will be used for the petrol variants of the XUV500 rather than the W nomenclature for the diesel models of the popular SUV. According to reports, Mahindra & Mahindra will launch only the G9 petrol variant initially for the XUV500. The manual transmission version will be launched sometime later.
The Mahindra XUV500 G9 will get the touch screen infotainment setup but will not get premium leather seats. The alloy wheels may be given a miss as well. There will only be two airbags. The XUV500 petrol model will compete with the Jeep Compass petrol version which has a 1.4 litre turbocharged engine that dishes out 163 hp.
