Hi All,

I have newly joined IBB forum. I had been searching for a place where I can discuss and get information regarding all sorts of cars and automobiles, so I am really happy to have finally landed up here. I am looking forward to interacting with you guys with the hope of gaining some valuable info while contributing here myself.

I was actually thinking of buying a car within a budget of Rs. 5 lakhs, and it would be great if you all could help me with your suggestions so that I can decide which one to go for.

Hello Ashish and welcome to IBB Forum.

If you’re looking for a car within Rs. 5 lakhs, Maruti Suzuki Swift would be a very apt choice for you. It has been the hottest hatchback on sale since 2005, and it recently also got a facelift in 2014. You can expect up-to-date technological features, and the interior is equipped with cruise control, keyless entry and a button start. The 1.2 litre petrol mill produces 85bhp/114 Nm while the 1.4 litre MultiJet diesel engine gives 74 bhp/190 Nm. Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. I purchased it last year and have been very satisfied with its overall performance so far.

Another car which is a great pick for this budget is Hyundai i10. It has also been consistently maintaining its position amongst the top 10 selling cars in the country. The interior has an up-market and classy feel, both in terms of its appearance and comfort. It is not only quicker than its counterparts, but is also the only car which has an automatic variant in the segment. It is priced at around Rs. 4.54 lakhs onwards.

At a lower price, you have Renault Kwid which is a good blend of practicality and efficiency. Its muscular appearance, coupled with several exterior features, will surely appeal to you. The equipment list, I would say, is short but sweet. Even though so competitively priced, I would say it has a pretty compelling cabin. I can vouch for it even more confidently since my friend bought it recently. It also performs well both in terms of drivability and efficiency. In fact, it is the lightest car in its class and claims a class-leading fuel efficiency of 25.17 kmpl.

Hi Ashish

In addition to the cars mentioned above, I would suggest you can for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. It has an all-new interior, and has made quite a few modifications to enhance its appeal. Another wonderful car within this range is the Hyundai Grand i10. Priced a little above Rs. 5 lakhs as far as I know, its main highlight is the all-new 1.1 litre diesel engine. It is a lot bigger than the i10 hatchback, so if you can stretch your budget just a little, this could prove to be a great purchase! You can also consider Hyundai Eon, Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, etc.
