About MERCEDES BENZ A CLASS
Mercedes-Benz has done a good job with the A-Class and there is no hiding. There has been no compromise made on the design and styling of the product. The overall styling of the interiors is good and even the quality of the materials and the fit and finish is no different from any other Mercedes-Benz product. The German automaker is taking all the correct measures with its hatch back as it is stylish and spacious too. It has a spacious cabin with lots of space for passengers, as the engine is mounted transversely. The instrument panel is also stylish and looks young and trendy. The driving position can be adjusted to low slung and it comes loaded with many features despite being a hatchback. It has features like reverse parking camera, cruise control and even dual clutch transmission.
There are two engines on offer by the Stuttgart based manufacturer. One is the 1.6-litre turbo petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel, with petrol being more powerful. The acceleration produced by the A-Class is good and even the power delivery is fairly linear and smooth. The engines on offer might on look not that good on paper, but in the real world they are far better than what is on offer. The A-Class is a fuel-efficient vehicle, be it the petrol or the diesel. The light body-weight makes it fuel-efficient.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are known for their ride quality and this new hatchback is no exception. The A-Class drives like any other Mercedes-Benz and the German automaker has ensured this with the driving characteristics too. This does take a while to get used to. The safety features on the A-Class are several like multiple airbags, ABS and even ESP. The only competition is the 1 Series, which is a lot more expensive than A-Class.

What we like
- The Mercedes Benz A-Class is the first of its kind. It is a premium, affordable hatchback that also sports the new Benz design premise in its interiors and exterior.
- The A-Class is a complete hatchback, a complete, attractive vehicle. With a touch of sportiness and a neat build, it is affordable luxury.
What we don't like
- As it is Mercedes first foray into the affordable hatchback segment, there are some niggles present.
- Low ground clearance, rear seating is a little cramped and as such, owing to pricing, doesn’t totally qualify to being a Mercedes vehicle.
- Maintenance and after sales servicing is expensive.
With the A-Class, Mercedes Benz has made a changeover from its usual brand identity. That is from retailing only saloons, SUVs and coupes to entering the luxury hatchback segment and not to miss the affordability quotient so as to be able to garner a wider audience. It is definitely a move in the right direction for the German luxury automaker, considering competitors too fielding their models in the same segment. The A-Class looks sporty and innovative and its exterior and interiors are splendid and eye-catching. With a hatchback added to its portfolio, Mercedes has heralded a new era, that is offering a premium vehicle at affordable, entry level prices.
